Korintje cinnamon supplier, Indonesia Korintje cinnamon, straight from Kerinci
Korintje, Korintji, Kerinci cinnamon, cassia vera: buyers use different names for the same bark. It is our main line, and we grade it ourselves in Medan.
One bark, many names
Korintje (also spelled Korintji) is the trade name for cassia cinnamon from the Kerinci highlands in Jambi, Sumatra. On a spec sheet or a customs form you will also see it called Kerinci cinnamon, cassia vera, Indonesian cinnamon or kayu manis. Botanically it is all Cinnamomum burmannii, the cassia most of the world bakes and cooks with.
Spice brands often print "Korintje" on the jar because the name tells their customers where the bark comes from. If that origin matters to your label, ask us for the lot's paperwork. We buy from the same Kerinci smallholders each season, so we can tell you where a lot was grown.
What we ship
We sort Korintje bark by hand into AA sticks, thin double-curled quills, and A sticks, thicker single-curled ones. AAA is a mix of the two. Cuts of 6 cm and 8 cm are the most common, and we cut up to 60 cm. A long sticks go out baled. The broken grades, KABC and KBBC, are for buyers who grind, extract or blend. Every lot is moisture tested at intake and has to be at or under 12% before we pack it.
